Key European leaders will joinVolodymyr Zelenskyyin Washington this week as he meets withDonald Trump, rallying around Ukraine's wartime president after Trump has appeared to embrace a peace stance held byVladimir Putin. United Kingdom Prime Minister Kier Starmer, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz are all set to travel to the United States ahead of the talks on Aug. 18. It wasn't immediately clear whether the European leaders would join conversations between the United States and Ukraine. The meeting this week in Washington come after a much-hyped summit between Trump and Putin that saw the U.S. president flex his deal-making skills achieved no major breakthrough in peace negotiations overRussia's war against Ukraine. "There were many, many points that we agree on," Trump told reporters after the summit in Alaska without elaborating. "A couple of big ones that we haven't quite gotten there," he added. "So there's no deal until there's a deal." This is a developing story that will be updated.
